End result: French Kiss 2 – Kowloon Cricket Club 1
The Team: The Men in White again took the pitch on a mission. With Steven away sipping pina coladas the lineup was left to Ken, Paolo, and Cees. The 3-2-3-2 was scrapped for the traditional 4-4-2 due to the larger pitch and the outlook of having but 2 subs (those that showed up late, please. . . .) Nico patrolling the goal saving our butts on many an occasion. Dick and Ken at fullback and Gihl and Adrien holding down the middle. Paolo and Edo on the wings and Henrique "Little Papa" and Danielo running the middle. The strikers were Thomas and Mauro.
Henrique announced his future papa-ness! CONGRATS!! Maybe Paolo is next?
The game started with a corner kick that confused the interim coach as the ball deflected straight off his foot and barely trickled across the line - a terrible start. Verbal abuse was deserved, but with new respect for each other, none came. Instead we dedicated ourselves to the cause at hand - fighting and playing hard for every ball. Danielo created many chances from the center, but we could not capitalize. We kept up the pace and to use Steven's famous words, "nevermind!" Adrien tackling, clearing, and flashing yellow, "boots, not cards" his new mantra.
The defense sorted itself out and Gihl made defensive assignments to counter the Wanderererereres overloading of their left wing; brilliant. It forced us to play a lopsided 5-3-2 with Edo withdrawn on a defensive assignment. It worked, and shortly after Edo sprung free on a counter and rambled to his left and struck a curving ball that neatly ticked the inside of the post for the equalizer; 1-1. Henrique will it be Edo or Eda? The scored carried into the half.
Second half saw Jackal replace Mauro. Jackal's pace caused problems for the opposition. Within 10 minutes Thomas off, Edo to striker, Ken to right wing, Dani to right back. Instant success. Off a throw-in Edo got his head to it and it bounced off an Englishmen right into the path of a bounding father to be. Superman struck a volley past the helpless keeper; 2-1. Henrique will be a nice middle name.
A few more chances.... Ken off, Rudi on who provided relentless pressure marking his man out of the game. Milan replaced Edo providing a target to hold the ball. Maarten replaced Jackal and helped preserve the victory; 2-1.
Well done French Kiss!
