Game 5: French Kiss – Antonhill

The Coach's picture

Rudi Stalmans - Trainer of the French Kiss Football team in Hong Kong

We’ve got it, our first precious point of the season.
We had to work hard for it, and we paid dearly, but French Kiss showed an enormous fighting spirit. There is still a lot of room for improvement, but we can finally say the season really started. Another makeshift team, puzzled together by a high fever coach

End result: French Kiss 3 – Antonhill 3

The team: Simon in goal, A 3 man defense with Ken as a sweaper and Dick and Evan (again as defender, thanks Evan) as full backs. A fortified midfield with Simone ,Vojta and Mauro in the center, Edo and Paolo on the side, and Thomas and Jackal to provide the assists and the goals. On the side, we welcomed Dani for the first time, Nacho for the first time since ages, Lewis, Miland and Rudi. The coach had to surrender his shoes to Edo before the game, and would only be coaching this time.

Before the game, French Kiss was warned to be carefull, as Antonhill and the referees seem to go back a long time. The game started at full pace, both teams attacking well and defending poorly. It was clear from the start that this was not going to be goalless for long. At the 15th minute, the referee probably mixed up teams, and awarded us a penalty for a handball. Mauro put it away nicely, 1-0 for Kiss. The referee kept acting weird, denying them what seemed a clear penalty, and denying us as well, as he had given us one already. Things got worse, when we gave their striker all the time to run at Simon, have look around, and score an equalizer. Later on, one of the Antonhill players managed to make a throw in past the second post. French Kiss showed respect for that really great throw, by allowing his teammate to score from it, 2-1 down. We picked up some yellows, as they kept going down screaming, and we scored a brilliant equalizer, a great Jackal assist for a great Thomas finish. 2 – 2 at half time.

In the second half, the same game continued, both teams attacking, getting all the space the attackers could dream of. The referee decided that Antonhill needed more space, and gave both Dick and Mauro a second yellow. The coach, who thought to be smart by taking of Simone to prevent red cards, was clearly outwitted by the referee here. No surprise that Antonhill scored 3 -2. French Kiss refused to go down this time, and kept attacking, creating some great chances, even 2 men down. Evan set up Lewis, Lewis turned, ran off and finished beautifully, 3-3. Desperate defending, with all the substitutes on and doing a great job, the game had one final twist. Antonhill striker escaped, and Ken stopped him, the referee was probably correct with his third red card there. They missed the free kick, and as he could not keep waiting untill they scored the winner, the referee reluctantly made an end to an incredible game, earning French Kiss a well deserved point.

Next week, we will have to puzzle again as there will be 3 guys out. We are playing ANP, 6PM, and we hope to build on the character showed.
