French Kiss – Club Wanderers

The Coach's picture

What was supposed to be a nice afternoon out in Happy Valley, actually looked like an early morning game, with coach and players hardly awake at 2PM. Credit to the guys who did not look as if they came straight from the bar, kudos to us others. With a coach barely sober, it took a some time to get organized, and we nearly forgot the starting eleven. Still, by the time the referee was ready, French Kiss was as well.

End result: French Kiss – Club Wanderers: 2 - 1

The team:
With Ming in goal, Fabio and Adrien in central defense, Captain Miguel on the right back, Simone on the left, defense looked NICE. Midfield we had Angel and Jurian in the center, Paolo on the left and Julien on the right. In attack, Jackal and Henrique as the target man. On the side, ready to replace dying, injured or just tired starters, Ken, Etienne, Nacho, Lewis and Cees, in case of emergency.

After just a couple of minutes, it was clear that French Kiss was as sleepy as its coach, and Wanderers looked dangerous ready. Unlike the coach, French Kiss woke up fast and started to play a nice passing game. While Wanderers were often wandering where the ball was, French Kiss moved swiftly and got a couple of chances. As usual, it was Jackal who scored, keeping his pace at one goal per game. Waaauw.

At half time, French Kiss was leading but the game was definitely not finished. Saturday’s celebrations, as well as the lack of clean air, and the tough opponents made it a tough first half. Etienne and Ken joined at half time for Julien (Allez les bleus) and Jurian. Lewis followed soon to replaced Henrique, and Nacho came in later for Jackal.
The second half, as more or less feared on the side, Wanderers pushed us harder. Our passing game slowed down, and when the game became a kick and rush game, Wanderers looked stronger. They equalized, and got some more chances. Good defending, great goalkeeping from Ming and some crazy miss from their striker kept it level. We had our chances, they had as well, and a draw looked like a fair result. Lewis did not think so, and with a great run in the 2 minute of stoppage time, he destroyed the Wanderers defense. Paolo was there, as always, to finish it off in a very cool way. The referee saw it was good, and did not even bother for the kick off anymore. A 2-1 victory for French Kiss, and the drink afterwards was well deserved.

We made a good start, with 6 points out of 9, and 7 goals scored by 5 different strikers. Our discipline record is a concern, with 7 yellows already. We try to keep it under control.

Next game, Club Colts, on Sunday October 14th, 6 PM, in Hong Kong Football Club. The coach is out, but Cees and Jurian will definitely take care of you darlings. Cheers!
