Game 13: French Kiss - Dragons KCC 1 - 1

KCC Dragons beat French Kiss in september during a friendly and in October in the league. Despite our good run, we all knew this was going to be a difficult game. KCC Dragons is a very experienced team, really skillfull and very competitive. Focusing on this, and focusing on not getting too exited at them and at the referee, was part of the game plan. It did not work out as planned.

Back at full strength, the line up was Fabio in goal, Fabio and Etienne in central defense, Ken on the right and captain Miguel on the left. In central midfield, Angel and Jurian with Henrique on the right and Paolo on the left, in attack Jackal and Mauro. On the side, we had Maarten, Adrien, Rudi, Lewis and, finally back, Gilles. Probably due to the absence of our French gigolo couple, our supporters and cheerleaders' numbers were reduced to a minimum, but we still got cheered on.

From the first minute, it was clear that this was to be a very competitive game, with both teams playing sharp as a knife. The referee was in for a busy afternoon. French Kiss played good football, but seemed to lack some determination, Dragons looked more eager to win. At half time, it was still nil nil, thanks to a wonderfull safe from Fabio and a very lucky getaway. The great shot on the most from Dragons actually deserved a goal.

At half time, Lewis joined the team, replacing Mauro. More determination, more focus was required. More attention was given to the behaviour, and to not reacting on the continuous provocations. Helas.

The game stayed levelled, but got even harder. Dragons scored the first goal, and was determined to keep the one goal lead. They used all measures they could think off to do so. French Kiss, replied and battled fiercely. Rudi and Maarten joined in, and we pushed forward. With 10 minutes to play, sweaper Fabio came of, Gilles came on and Jurian moved forward as a third striker. Unlike the other times we tried this, the gamble paid of. Jackal, who else, scored his 11th of the season, and we levelled. Jurian even came close to a winner, but his header was saved.

After the game, heated discussions continued. After a hard fought battle, both teams got what they deserved. Still, that was not clear immediately. We better avoid scenes like this in the future. We play for fun right.

After the game, the pizza and beer festival was well attended. With this weeks results, we dropped 2 places in the ranking, but we came within 3 points of the league leaders. ME LIKE
